How do Gymnathlon
sessions work?

Whether your child is new to sport or already active, our goal is for every child to leave each Gymnathlon session with positive experiences, confidence and enjoyment. 🥰

For many children, Gymnathlon may be their first organised sports activity. We understand that this can feel like a big step, for both children and parents. That’s why our coaches create a supportive, welcoming and playful environment, helping children feel comfortable from the very first session.

Sessions are carefully structured to suit each age group and ability level. Our coaches focus on encouragement, fun and gradual development, ensuring every child feels successful, motivated and excited to come back again. 🤩

Before the session

At the start of each session, children sit together in a circle to greet one another and meet the coaches. This helps create a friendly, relaxed atmosphere and allows children to feel comfortable from the very beginning. Children are also introduced to Gymnathlon’s mascot, Max the Monkey 🐵, who supports and motivates them throughout the sessions. Max is a friendly companion who loves sport and encourages children in a positive, playful way. Each week, Max moves between the children and collects sporting experiences in his notebook 📗. These experiences are shared together at the start of each session, helping children reflect, connect and feel part of the group.

During the session

After the initial welcome and sharing of sporting experiences from the past week, it’s time to get moving. The session begins with our team cheer, “Go sports” 🗣️, bringing the group together and setting a positive tone. A warm-up game then leads the children straight into the session. From there, activities flow in a playful and varied way, keeping children engaged through fun, age-appropriate exercises designed to maintain energy and enjoyment throughout the session.

End of the session

At the end of the session, the children come together in a circle to slow down, catch their breath and reflect on what they’ve done that day. This calm moment helps children feel settled and proud of their achievements. Each child then receives their activity map 🗺️, where they add a sticker to mark their progress 👍, a small but meaningful reward that helps build motivation and confidence. This forms part of our regular closing routine. We finish by saying goodbye, sharing high-fives and looking ahead to the next session, leaving children feeling positive and excited to return. 👋
